About Me

Dr. Dhannia Torres-Rincon

I am a health psychologist in Arizona. I have specialized training in helping people with anxiety, insomnia, and chronic illness/pain.

I received my doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from Arizona State University (go Sun Devils!). I completed an accredited American Psychological Association internship at the Salt Lake City VA and received training in health psychology, substance abuse, and trauma. My fellowship training was at the Phoenix VA where I worked with individuals struggling with chronic pain and insomnia.

I believe knowledge is empowering. My goal is to provide education and skills that help people develop the tools they need to live their best lives. In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to lose sight of our values. We can be our harshest critics, and when life forces us to slow down, we often become overly hard on ourselves. I deeply value the practice of showing grace to oneself—treating ourselves with the same kindness we offer to others, especially during times of change. Much of my time is spent reading books on mindfulness, spirituality, and the latest research in health psychology.

However, I don’t just work all the time—I make sure to have fun too. Alongside my more serious readings, I enjoy mystery and sci-fi novels. As a psychologist and mother of two, I strive to maintain as active a lifestyle as possible. I love cycling, practicing yoga, and spending time outdoors. I’ve even been known to bring sci-fi analogies into my therapy sessions!

Before my professional training, it was my personal experiences—witnessing how health issues impacted my family and friends—that inspired me to pursue a career in health psychology. From a lack of healthcare knowledge to navigating health challenges as a family, I saw firsthand how the healthcare system affected not only the individual but everyone around them. I witnessed people having to completely reshape their lives. These personal experiences, combined with my professional training, have fueled my passion for helping individuals navigate the complex intersection of their emotional and physical health.
